Re-Shaping the Future of

Sustainable Energy

Future Products for Solar Energy

Sunsurf Solar is a technology developer with extensive experience in floating structures, our focus is on safe and pile-free solar systems. Products are designed for challenging environments such as peatlands, landfills, leachate ponds, and reservoirs – places where traditional technology does not work. The systems are developed to withstand the Nordic climate and designed for a long life with minimal maintenance.

Design PowerModule™

The solution for leachate ponds, irrigation ponds, and reservoirs enables energy production in areas where traditional technology cannot be applied.

The floating photovoltaic system is designed to operate in varying and demanding environments. The design can withstand large differences in water levels, high wind speeds, and heavy snow loads—without compromising safety, stability, or performance.

PowerModule, construction for floating photovoltaics

Airy Design

The PowerModule™ is designed with a distance of over one meter from the water surface. This allows light to enter and enables air currents under the modules and natural cooling of components - leading to increased lifespan and minimal impact on photosynthesis in the water.

Maximized Power

The airy design allows sunlight to reach the panels both directly and indirectly through reflections from the water surface and the surrounding aluminum sections. This optimized light absorption can result in up to 15% higher energy production compared to traditional solar cell systems.

Design features PowerModule™

Proper orientation for maximum effect

Adjustable for desired orientation (south, southwest, east-west)

Airy Design

Designed to optimize the cooling of solar panels, both through air flows and through the natural cooling effect of water.

Service and Maintenance

Components are easily maintained thanks to smart system design.

Higher Power

Up to 15% higher efficiency than conventional solar systems due to double-sided panels and reflection from the water surface.

IP-protected Design

IP-protected design with robust aluminum structure.

Modular Design

The systems can be adapted to the specific shape of the pond, the desired power demand, and the optimal orientation.

Technical Durability

Technical durability of 40 years

Fast System Installation

Designed for easy and quick system installation

Installation, Service and Maintenance

Since the systems are completely pile-free, the installation process is quick and cost-effective. Once the system is operational, service and maintenance are facilitated by Sunsurf Solar's access platforms.

Each PowerModule™ is also equipped with an integrated walk beam, making it easy and safe to move around on the system.

Solar cells on water

Mooring

The systems are anchored to land using Sunsurf Solar's FlexibleMooringSystem™, which is designed to handle water level variations of more than 6 meters. The solution ensures stable operation and leaves the bottom completely unaffected.

The mooring causes minimal turbidity in the water and does not affect sedimentation, protective covers, or purification processes. This makes the system particularly well-suited for sensitive environments such as ponds, reservoirs, and water storage facilities.

Nordic Climate

The systems are designed to withstand the harshest Nordic climatic conditions. The construction and anchoring are dimensioned according to Eurocode and DNV-GL standards for harsh Nordic climates.

This means a safe and reliable solution all year round – regardless of snow, wind, or ice loads.

Design PeatModule™

The solution for large-scale solar parks on landfills, peatlands, and marshlands with the most demanding soil conditions.

PeatModule™ is designed for the most challenging ground conditions. On peatlands, marshes, bogs, and landfills—where traditional piling is not possible—we offer a stable and sustainable solution.

The system is flexible and can handle both variations in ground level and temporary flooding without compromising safety or efficiency. This makes it possible to produce renewable energy in places where it was previously unthinkable.

PeatModule - pile-free solar cells

The development of PeatModule™ is based on the need to be able to utilize land areas where traditional technology is not possible, and where the areas in many cases cannot be used for anything else.

Peatlands are particularly challenging. With a low pH, typically between 3.5–5.5, they are at risk of rapidly affecting metals in traditional ground-based systems. In addition, the soil is often too soft for piling, making classic methods both technically and economically challenging. Similar problems exist in landfill sites, where the soil is unstable, variable and sometimes gas-producing. Here, it is crucial to minimize soil intrusion and create a stable solution on top of the surface.

Service and Maintenance

PeatModule™ is constructed with robust pontoons made of HDPE (high-density polyethylene) as a base, which makes it possible to install the system even in very challenging ground conditions. When the ground is impassable, service bridges can be used to easily access and maintain the facility, without affecting the environment or safety.

HDPE has excellent chemical resistance and natural tolerance to low pH values, making the material ideal for peatlands, landfills, and other sensitive environments where traditional materials would quickly degrade.
