Sunsurf Solar — founded 2020 in Gothenburg
Sunsurf Solar is a Swedish developer of floating and pile-free solar systems. Founded in Gothenburg in 2020, we built Sweden's largest floating solar park to date (Miljöhantering i Jönköping, 116.1 kWp, 2025). The technology delivers up to 15% higher output, cuts evaporation and extends service life — without taking up productive land.

About Sunsurf Solar
See how our patented technology produces clean electricity on water surfaces, landfills and peatland — without taking land out of use.
Innovation paired with profitability is, to us, the route to a sustainable future. We build products that make a measurable difference and push energy production onto cleaner ground. Putting solar above water brings several advantages — higher yield, water savings and longer service life.
Up to four times more area-efficient than ground-mounted arrays — around 1.6 MW per hectare, with no land taken out of use.
Up to 2,740 m³ of water saved per hectare each year through reduced evaporation.
Up to 15% more yield than rooftop or ground-mount systems — reflection and water cooling do the work.
Floating arrays cool the water below and slow algae growth, yielding cleaner water and less eutrophication.
Siting the system on water eliminates the fire-spread risk of a built environment, and natural cooling extends the array's working life.

Sunsurf Solar built Sweden's largest floating solar park in 2025 — proof that we can deliver innovative energy systems in demanding environments.
We build market-leading systems for industrial ponds, irrigation reservoirs, leachate ponds, peatlands and landfills — places where conventional solar doesn't work.
Our patented technology produces clean energy without claiming new land. It cuts evaporation, makes better use of existing water surfaces, and delivers up to 15% higher yield than ground- or roof-mounted systems.

Our systems are built for the Nordic climate. Engineered for water-level swings beyond 6 metres and dimensioned to Eurocode and DNV's classification standards for floating structures, they hold up under snow loads, ice formation and heavy winds.
Material choices and Sunsurf's design deliver a technical service life of over 40 years for the mounting system, while the panels retain at least 80% of rated output after 25 years.
The result: solar generation on surfaces that would otherwise sit idle — water, peatland, bog and landfill — year-round, in a Nordic climate.

PowerModule™ is our patented solution for floating solar on leachate ponds, irrigation reservoirs and artificial water surfaces. PeatModule™ is our patented solution for solar on landfills, peatlands and wetlands — sites with the most demanding ground conditions.
Both pair with FlexibleMooringSystem™, our patented anchoring solution. It absorbs water-level changes of more than 6 metres without disturbing bottom sediments or compromising the integrity of protective liners.

The company has developed a system that is more than a technical innovation — it has been successfully deployed in live projects with real public benefit.
Preem, Stora Ingenjörspriset
Sunsurf Solar was founded with a clear vision: to accelerate the green transition through smarter solar. We're specialists in floating solar and pile-free systems for water surfaces, landfills and peatland — places where conventional approaches fall short.
Behind the company are founders with deep experience in advanced floating structures and some of the energy industry's most demanding projects. Among others, Martin Örgård and Björn Larsson have contributed to wave-power systems, designed the world's largest floating wind farm, and engineered HVDC platforms for large-scale offshore power transmission.
From day one the focus has been the same: challenge convention and build new technology for the energy needs ahead. We develop solutions that produce clean power without claiming productive land. We believe in bold ideas, in innovation, and in technology that makes a measurable difference.
What began as a vision is now floating solar in operation — including at Tångagård in Falkenberg.

Environmental responsibility is part of what Sunsurf Solar is and how the business works. One of our co-founders, Marc Montgomery, comes from environmental science — and the drive to make a real difference for the climate and the natural world is what started the company.
For us, sustainability is more than producing renewable energy. It's about building smart solar solutions that work with nature, not against it. Our floating solar technology saves water, can improve water quality, and makes clean generation possible in places where traditional solar simply doesn't fit.
