Clean electricity straight into the waste facility
Norra Åsbo Renhållnings AB (Nårab) has installed a floating solar park on one of the leachate ponds at Hyllstofta waste facility in Klippan — 100 kWp and 42 PowerModule™ units producing clean electricity inside an active landfill site, commissioned in 2025 by Sunsurf Solar. A strategic surface inside a landfill site
In early 2025, Norra Åsbo Renhållnings AB (Nårab) installed a floating solar park on one of the leachate ponds at Hyllstofta waste facility. The investment is part of Nårab's ongoing work to make waste management more sustainable and energy-efficient.
The installation has 42 PowerModule™ units and 126 bifacial panels, totalling 100 kWp — covering around 500 square metres of water surface. The bifacial panels capture direct sunlight from above and light reflected off the water below, producing more output than conventional ground- or roof-mounted installations. Siting them on a leachate pond turns an otherwise unused surface into a productive energy asset, without touching land resources or waste logistics.

Anchoring that protects the pond liner
A key advantage of Sunsurf Solar's technology is the patented anchoring system — it moors the installation without damaging the pond's protective liner. The system also handles significant water-level variation, which makes it a strong fit for leachate ponds.
The electricity produced runs the daily operations on site, cutting purchased power, lowering operating costs and strengthening self-sufficiency. The installation is part of Nårab's long-term environmental and quality strategy — built around circular thinking, clean energy and efficient use of resources.
Putting solar panels on leachate ponds delivers a double benefit.
