The Founding of Sunsurf Solar
Sunsurf Solar was founded in 2020 by Marc Montgomery, Martin Örgård, and Björn Larsson, united by a shared commitment to tackling the growing climate crisis and accelerating the development of sustainable technologies.
With backgrounds in engineering and environmental science, and experience in offshore technology development, the team saw floating photovoltaics as both a natural progression and an exciting challenge. After years of intensive R&D, testing, and validation, Sunsurf Solar has delivered a solution that enables the efficient installation of competitive floating solar systems, even under the demanding conditions of the Nordic climate.

Sunsurf is at the forefront of floating photovoltaic development, driven by deep expertise and a strong commitment to meaningful change. Since day one, the Sunsurf's vision has been clear: to deliver sustainable, durable, and competitive products — proudly made in Europe. We provide solar energy solutions for a wide range of applications, from irrigation ponds and large reservoirs to peatlands — all with the goal of contributing to a more sustainable future.
2020
Sunsurf Solar was founded in Gothenburg, where the company's technology development quickly gained momentum.
Sunsurf Solar’s technology is installed and tested for the first time, marking a key milestone in the company’s development.
Development begins on Sunsurf Solar’s flexible mooring system — a critical step toward adapting floating solar to a wider range of environments.
Sunsurf Solar is selected to join the Innovatum Startup Incubator, gaining valuable support and resources to accelerate growth.
2022
Sunsurf Solar participates in SVT’s Draknästet and secures external investments to accelerate the company’s growth and development.
Sweden’s first commercial floating photovoltaic system is successfully installed, a major step for Sunsurf Solar.
2023
Sunsurf Solar wins the Swedish Solar Energy Association’s prestigious "Solenergipriset" award for Achievement of the Year.
Sweden’s largest floating photovoltaic system to date is successfully installed outside Falkenberg — a major milestone for the industry.
Several new projects are initiated, focusing on installations on water surfaces and peatlands, further expanding Sunsurf Solar’s reach and impact.
