Sweden's first peat-adapted solar installation
At Kättilstorp in Falköping municipality, Sunsurf Solar commissioned Sweden's first peat-adapted solar installation in 2024 — a pile-free PeatModule™ system on peatland with uneven terrain, low pH and difficult access. The installation confirms the technology works where conventional pile driving simply isn't an option. Last updated: 24 April 2026.

Technology development on hard-to-use ground
Sunsurf Solar keeps pushing the edge of development and innovation. Alongside our work on floating solar — and our ambition to put otherwise difficult land to use — we've built a system that opens up unused surfaces: peatland, bog and landfill.
The first tests took place on peatland with challenging ground conditions, uneven terrain and difficult access. The trial was set up to evaluate both the technology and the installation process. The results were strong — the technology proved both reliable and effective.

Minimal impact on sensitive carbon sinks
A key advantage of the technology is that it works on low-pH sites where conventional methods like pile driving can't go. That keeps environmental impact to an absolute minimum — particularly important on peatland. Peatland is a significant carbon sink, storing large volumes of CO₂ and playing a critical role in the climate. It also covers wide areas and rarely suits other forms of infrastructure.
With our technology, solar can go on peatland with minimal impact. It lets us contribute to clean energy while protecting vital ecosystems — a major step forward in building sustainable solutions for both the environment and tomorrow's energy needs.
We had high expectations that the technology would perform well in these conditions, but it was still terrific to see the results back up the assumptions. Now we look forward to deploying this solution in larger projects, where the land would otherwise sit unused.
