Levide, Gotland — Gotland's first floating solar installation

Clean power for Sallmunds Gård's vegetable production

Sallmunds Gård sits in Levide parish, just under a Swedish mile north-west of Hemse on Gotland — and it now hosts Gotland's first floating solar installation. During 2026, Sunsurf Solar is commissioning a 64.8 kWp PowerModule™ system on the farm's irrigation pond — 30 units and 90 bifacial panels producing local clean electricity for the cultivation of potatoes, carrots and seasonal vegetables. Last updated: 24 April 2026.

Solar power right by the crops

The system has 30 PowerModule™ units and 90 bifacial panels with a total capacity of 64.8 kWp. It produces electricity directly on the pond and helps run the farm's day-to-day operations, the farm shop and the irrigation system on clean power.

The bifacial panels capture both direct sunlight and light reflected off the water below, lifting yield compared to a similar ground-mounted installation.

Clean power for a Gotland farm

Sunsurf Solar's patented FlexibleMooringSystem™ anchors the installation on the pond surface and absorbs the level changes that come with seasonal irrigation. The setup is dimensioned for Gotland conditions and doesn't touch arable land or affect how the pond functions.

With this installation, Sallmunds Gård gets a stable local energy source for its potato, carrot, onion and honey production — and shows how Gotland farms can pair food production with clean generation on water surfaces that would otherwise sit unused.
